The SMS Water Quality Reporter system allows users whose phones do not support J2ME (i.e entry level phones) to submit water quality test results into the system via SMS.
- After performing water quality tests, data collectors fill in the logbook provided, looking up the sample point identification number in the sample point table at the back of the logbook.
- Using the logbook, users compose an SMS in the predefined format. Currently, the predefined formats are available for H2S tests and residual chlorine tests.
- Users send the SMS, and receive an SMS response from the server to either confirm that the test result was saved successfully, or describes any errors encountered.
- On the server side, RapidSMS is used to receive and parse incoming messages.
